Yurendra Basnett

Yurendra Basnett is the Country Economist at the ADB’s Indonesia Resident Mission where he is responsible for leading ADB’s country program and operations and managing research on the implication of the Fourth Industrial Revolution on Indonesia’s development prospect. He was the team leader for the preparation of ADB’s new Country Partnership Strategy for Indonesia, 2020–2024. From 2015 to 2017, he was ADB Country Economist in Papua New Guinea where he advised the government on macroeconomic policy, participated in the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Article IV missions, and co-authored IMF’s special issues paper on inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

Prior to joining ADB in 2015, he was Research Fellow at the International Economic Development Group of the Overseas Development Institute in London where he led research on trade, growth, and structural transformation and contributed to the European Report on Development. He earned his PhD in Development Economics from the University of Cambridge, and his MSc in Development Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science where he received the William Robson Award for his dissertation.
